DOCTORS

Dr. Salwa S. Ayad
A more recent addition to the NEFEDA physician team, Dr. Ayad joined us in 2006 from Alexandria, Egypt. She is a graduate of the College de la Mere de Dieu. Dr. Ayad continues to bring a spirit of innovation to our practice coupled with an old-fashioned approach to providing patients with personal attention. Physicians like Dr. Ayad are why the experts consider NEFEDA a genuine “world-class” practice. Dr. Ayad is married with three children. When not at work, Dr. Ayad enjoys cooking, traveling, and the great outdoors. Her patients enjoy a great doctor when she is working.

Dr. Ronald Bateh
It’s increasingly rare that doctors return to practice in the community where they were raised but fortunately for his patients, that is the case with Dr. Ronald Bateh. A proud, native son of Jacksonville, Dr. Bateh even attended college at JU before enrolling at the University of California San Francisco where he attended their College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Bateh completed his residency at St. Vincent's Hospital.

When he joined NEFEDA, Dr. Bateh made history as the first podiatrist in the nation to be incorporated into an endocrinology group. The pioneering move proved to be an overwhelming success. NEFEDA can now literally say they offer care from head to toe! The fact that this medical first happened right here in Jacksonville has made it all the more special for Dr. Bateh.

When not helping patients, Dr. Bateh enjoys spending time with his wife and enjoying the many outdoor activities available on the First Coast. He loves heading out to the beach.

While Dr. Bateh is certainly an integral part of the NEFEDA family, you might be surprised to learn about is actual family here in Jacksonville. He has over 350 cousins living here locally! That’s over 700 feet, if you’re counting at home.

Dr. Lorraine Dajani
Born in Jacksonville, Dr. Dajani loved her city so much she returned to practice here in 1988. She earned her Doctor in Medicine at the Universidad Nacional de Laplata in Buenos Aires, completing her residency at Wayne State University followed by a fellowship in Endocrinology. She also took on another fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Florida. A year after NEFEDA was founded in 1992, Dr. Dajani joined the team and, in 1998, became an investigator in clinical trials concerning Polycystic Ovarian Disease and Thyroid-related diseases. While the North Florida beaches might not be as exotic as those in Buenos Aires, where Dr. Dajani attended medical school, she would not have it any other way. The only thing Dr. Dajani loves more than practicing in her hometown is helping her patients enjoy a happy, healthy life in Jacksonville, too.

Dr. Dajani is an avid Jaguars fan, missing only five home games since the team began. When not in the office, Dr. Dajani is also very involved with her family.

Dr. John Gary Evans

He has been married for over 21 years and has three daughters. Dr. Evans earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. (Go Terps!) Known for his kindness and genuine desire to listen to his patients, Dr. Evans has been a trusted part of so many patients’ lives. He loves what he does and it shows.

Dr. Evans enjoys tennis and fishing but perhaps his greatest love is chess. Winning at chess and helping patients involves having an expert strategy. Dr. Evans patients will be the first to tell you that his individualized plans make an immense difference in their lives.

Dr. J. Sample Magee
You do not find many doctors with over 30 years of service to patients. Dr. Magee has watched endocrinology evolve, patients thrive and NEFEDA emerge as one of America’s largest private endocrinology practices. It goes without saying that Dr. Magee has quite the impressive background. He has been associated with two different Ivy League schools. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and was a fellow at prestigious Yale University. He completed his residency at the University of Miami. Having helped so many people, Dr. Magee still looks at every patient as an individual with unique needs and requiring a customized plan for care. It is a formula that has made Dr. Magee one of the most admired practitioners on the First Coast.

NEFEDA WELCOMES DR. ROBERT MILLER.

We are pleased to announce the affiliation of Robert Miller, MD, with Northeast Florida Endocrine & Diabetes Associates as a staff physician. Originally from Baltimore, Dr. Miller’s dislike of cold weather brought him to Florida where he earned his BS degree from Stetson University and his Medical Degree from University of Miami School of Medicine. After several years in the intern and residency programs in Miami, Dr. Miller completed his Endocrine Fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

In private practice in Jacksonville since 1971, Dr. Miller believes in the true “art” of medicine and is happiest when he can be of service to assist patients to achieve their medical goals. In his spare time, Dr. Miller enjoys family, playing golf and his loyalty as a true “Miami Hurricane” fan. Dr. Miller has been recognized both locally and nationally as a “Top Doctor” in his field of Endocrinology.

NEFEDA is delighted about the new affiliation with Dr. Miller and is fortunate to have a physician that has provided and will continue to provide such a high standard of medical care to the people of Jacksonville and the surrounding areas.

Dr. John A. Purcell

Dr. Purcell has been with our practice since day one. As a NEFEDA founder, he built our organization with the goal of helping patients in our area receive a level and scope of care previously unavailable in the region. Decades later, Dr. Purcell can take pride in seeing that goal accomplished, however, he’s more focused on making the practice even better each day. That means continually adding benefits for patients and delivering even more coordinated care.

Dr. Purcell is a Pennsylvania native, who attended college at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta.  He attended Marshall University for Medical School and later went on to become a resident at The University of Florida – Shands Hospital. This is where he also completed a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism. Patients might be surprised to know that Dr. Purcell is a former hospital administrator. So he looks at enhancing patient care from every perspective. The simple joy of helping patients live happier, healthier lives continues to drive Dr. Purcell.

When not in the office, Dr. Purcell enjoys spending time with his family and enjoying North Florida’s beautiful beaches.

He enjoys all that Jacksonville has to offer -- and he has been known to torment his relatives in the Northern states by calling them in the middle of winter and describing Jacksonville’s warm weather! Upon finishing his training in 2000, Dr. Segel’s goal was to find an endocrine practice that provided patients with the most current and progressive treatment, and he is pleased that he found those qualities in NEFEDA. He truly enjoys developing relationships with his patients and working with them to optimize their health.

Dr. Senan Sultan
NEFEDA has been able to attract some of the finest providers from around the world. Dr. Senan Sultan is a perfect example. One of the newest members of the NEFEDA team, Dr. Sultan attained his medical degree in Syria. While studying there he also volunteered, providing underprivileged children with free medical care and health screenings. So it’s clear Dr. Sultan’s passion for helping others has been with him since even before his career officially began.

Next it was off to Europe where Dr. Sultan did rotations in both Germany and France. Finally, Dr. Sultan was ready to make his way to the U.S. He completed his residency at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic, considered one of America’s premiere healthcare organizations. After that, Dr. Sultan practiced as a hospitalist in Georgia for three years and followed that with a fellowship at the University of Florida. In 2010, Dr. Sultan arrived with us here at NEFEDA.

It’s through his work that Dr. Sultan hopes to improve awareness and thus aid in the prevention of diabetes and endocratic health problems. Able to speak English, Arabic, and French, Dr. Sultan’s goal is to offer each patient care with genuine compassion and a level expertise gained from experience working in healthcare on three continents.

At our center, Dr. Sutton has been one our clinical trial investigators on hypopituitarism since 1997. Most satisfying for Dr. Sutton is helping his patients go from worried about their condition to excited about their future. “If it weren’t for him, we never could have had our two children. We owe him everything,” says one of Dr. Sutton’s longtime patients. It is successes like those that keep Dr. Sutton invigorated to come to work each day.

Dr. Stefano Travaglini
There is an Italian proverb that states, “Batti il ferro quandro e caldo.” In English, it essentially means strike while the iron is hot. Whether in English or Italian, those are wise words when considering getting treatment for your thyroid or pancreas. The sooner you get treatment, the better. Just ask Dr. Stefano Travglini. A graduate with honors from The University of Perugia in Perugia, Italy, Dr. Travaglini attended medical school at The Catholic University in Rome, Italy.

After that it was on to the The States. Dr. Travaglini completed his residency at Cabrini Medical Center in New York City which is affiliated with NY Medical College. In NYC, he also completed a fellowship in endocrinology at NYU. Dr. Travaglini is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology and officially has the title of Stefano Travaglini MD, FACE.
